Former world No 1 Simona Halep, who is awaiting the result of her appeal to the four-year doping ban imposed on her, is suing the Canadian company Quantum Nutrition that produced the nutritional supplements that she believes led to her ban.
The Romanian tested positive for Roxadustat at the 2022 US Open, which is on the WADA banned substance list. She confirmed she used Schinoussa supplements during that tournament and claimed that the Keto MCT she took were contaminated with Roxadustat, which was not mentioned on the label.
Halep is suing the company for more than $10 million in damages and is also seeking punitive damages in a New York state court in Manhattan.
The two-time Grand Slam winner has repeatedly insisted that she never intentionally took any banned substances. There is no confirmed date on the outcome of her appeal as of yet.
