Italian wildcard Luciano Darderi beat Argentinian qualifier Juan Manuel Cerundolo 6-3, 3-6, 6-3 to advance to the last 8 of the Chile Open at Club Universidad Católica de San Carlos de Apoquindo in Santiago de Chile.
Darderi, ranked No 80, will play the winner of the match between No 4 seed Alejandro Tabilo and Tomas Barrios Vera next.
The 22-year-old Italian edged out Argentinian lucky loser Facundo Bagnis (7-6 (4), 6-7 (6), 7-6 (5)) in the previous round of the Santiago tournament.
In the previous round of the Santiago tournament, Cerundolo, ranked No 161, edged out German Yannick Hanfmann, the No 5 seed (3-6, 6-3, 7-5).
