Australian Jordan Thompson, the No 6 seed, edged out American Aleksandar Kovacevic 4-6, 7-6 (1), 7-6 (7) to advance to the last eight of the Houston Open at River Oaks Country Club on Thursday.
Thompson, ranked No 33, will play the winner of the match between Australian James Duckworth and American Frances Tiafoe, the No 3 seed, next.
