Italian Open: Sakkari beats Kalinina to reach last 16

Greek Maria Sakkari, the No 5 seed, advanced to the last 16 of the Italian Open by winning against Ukrainian Anhelina Kalinina, the No 30 seed, 7-6 (4), 6-0 at the Foro Italico in Roma on Sunday.

Sakkari, ranked No 8, will face the winner of the match between Belarusian Victoria Azarenka, the No 24 seed, and Egyptian Mayar Sherif next.

The Greek beat French qualifier Varvara Gracheva (6-2, 6-2) ahead of her victory.

In the previous round of the tournament, Kalinina, ranked No 31, benefited from the retirement of Lesia Tsurenko (2-0).
