Djokovic to play Geneva, could face Murray in first match

World No 1 Novak Djokovic is to play in the Gonet Geneva Open next week as he looks for some clay-court form heading into the defence of his title at Roland-Garros.

And the 24-time Grand Slam champion could play former world No 1 Andy Murray in his first match.

The Serbian, who turns 37 next week, has played just two events – and won just four matches – in this clay-court season, having chosen to skip Madrid.

It will be a rare outing for Djokovic in the week before a Grand Slam event but having lost in the third round in Rome, to Alejandro Tabilo, he clearly wants to get some match practice under his belt.

Djokovic will join a field that is headed by Casper Ruud, while Murray and Denis Shapovalov are also due to compete.

And if Murray beats Yannick Hanfmann in his first match, then he’ll face his old foe, Djokovic, in the second round.
