In last French Open, Schwartzman falls in qualifying
Diego Schwartzman’s career at Roland-Garros came to an end on Wednesday with a three-set qualifying loss at the hands of Quentin Halys.

On the same day Dominic Thiem played his final French Open match, Diego Schwartzman also bid farewell to tennis’ clay-court major.
Schwartzman, who announced that he will retired next February in Buenos Aires, lost in the second round of qualifying on Wednesday evening — 4-6, 6-4, 7-6(10-7) to France’s Quentin Halys. The Frenchman prevailed in a super-tiebreak after three hours and five minutes.
“The last match here shows how I’ve played my whole career here,” the Frenchman told the crowd. “Roland-Garros for me it’s very special. I did what I know to do: I fight to win the match [but] he played an amazing match and he deserved to win.”
With Wednesday’s exit, Schwartzman won’t get the chance to make another run in the main draw at what was by far his best of the four Grand Slams. The 31-year-old Argentine, who reached the semi-finals in 2020 and also advanced to the quarter-finals in 2018 and 2021.
Once as high as No 8 in the worlds, Schwartzman is currently ranked No 141.
Thiem, meanwhile, is a two-time runner-up at Roland-Garros. The 30-year-old Austrian peaked at No 3 in the rankings and won the 2020 US Open but now sits at No 131. He lost to Otto Virtanen 6-2, 7-5 on Wednesday.
