“It feels like he’s from another planet. Djokovic is 37, playing like he’s 25” – Medjedovic
Medjedovic has qualified for the French Open for the second year in a row
Novak Djokovic, Rome 2024
Serbia’s Hamad Medjedovic, who qualified for the French Open on Thursday, said it is hard to describe what compatriot Novak Djokovic continues to do in the sport.
Although he has had a lacklustre start to the 2024 season, Djokovic remains the world No 1 and will be running for his record-extending 25th Grand Slam title in Paris over the next two weeks.
“It’s unexplainable what he’s still doing, it feels like he’s from another planet. He’s 37, playing like he’s 25, it’s crazy. But we all know Novak, he has no limits,” Medjedovic said as quoted by the Roland-Garros website.
Djokovic has also served as a mentor to Medjedovic and the two even trained in the week before the qualifying competition began.
“I trained with him (Djokovic) the day before I came here. We didn’t play a set in training, or points, but if we did, he would have won for sure,” Medjedovic said. ” For his birthday (earlier this week) we were texting, he congratulated me on my matches here. We’re always keeping in touch and we have had a great relationship for years.”
Medjedovic’s first round opponent will be decided once the qualifying competition ends on Friday while Djokovic begins his campaign against Frenchman Pierre Hugues-Herbert.
