US Open: Paul defeats Diallo to set up fourth-round meeting with Sinner
Tommy Paul edged out Gabriel Diallo 6-7 (5), 6-3, 6-1, 7-6 (3). He’ll face Italian Jannik Sinner, the top seed, in the next round

American Tommy Paul, the No 14 seed, reached the last 16 of the US Open by edging out Canadian qualifier Gabriel Diallo 6-7 (5), 6-3, 6-1, 7-6 (3) at the USTA Billie Jean King National Tennis Center.
Paul, ranked No 14, will play Italian Jannik Sinner, the top seed, next.
In the previous rounds of the US Open, the American won against Italian Lorenzo Sonego (6-4, 6-2, 5-7, 6-2) and Australian Max Purcell (7-5, 6-0, 1-0 ret.).
Diallo, ranked No 143, edged out Spaniard Jaume Munar (6-4, 3-6, 6-3, 7-5) and Frenchman Arthur Fils, the No 24 seed (7-5, 6-7 (3), 6-4, 6-4) earlier in the tournament.
