American Amanda Anisimova defeated Kazakh Yulia Putintseva, the No 6 seed, 6-3, 7-6 (5) to move into the second round of the Korea Open at the Olympic Park Tennis Center in Seoul on Tuesday.
Anisimova and Putintseva broke each other back and forth in the two sets, however, the former converted five break points, one more than the other, to secure the win after nearly 100 minutes.
World No 46 Anisimova didn’t serve her best, committing seven double faults, but managed to cross the line in the second-set tiebreaker after Putintseva saved a match point.
Anisimova, ranked No 46, will face the winner of the match between German Tatjana Maria and Bulgarian Viktoriya Tomova next.
