China’s Sijia Wei won against Swiss qualifier Simona Waltert 6-1, 6-4 to reach the semi-finals of the Canberra Open at the Canberra Tennis Centre on Thursday.
Wei, ranked No 134, will face Filipino qualifier Alexandra Eala next.
The 21-year-old Chinese defeated Australian wildcard Lizette Cabrera (6-3, 6-4) and Thai Mananchaya Sawangkaew, the No 8 seed (6-3, 6-2) earlier in the week.
In the previous round of the tournament, Waltert, ranked No 174, beat Latvian Darja Semenistaja, the No 4 seed (6-2, 6-1) and French qualifier Elsa Jacquemot (6-1, 6-4).

- Aoi Ito (7) beat Nina Stojanovic: 6-2, 7-6 (6)
- Alexandra Eala beat Taylah Preston (WC): 4-6, 6-2, 6-1
- Nuria Parrizas Diaz (1) beat Oksana Selekhmeteva (Q): 6-3, 6-3
