Hobart International: Kessler moves into semi-finals

American McCartney Kessler defeated Ukrainian Dayana Yastremska, the top seed, 7-5, 6-4 to advance to the semi-finals of the Hobart International at Hobart’s Domain Tennis Centre on Thursday.
Kessler, ranked No 67, will play Armenian Elina Avanesyan, the No 6 seed, next.
The American won against Slovak Rebecca Sramkova, the No 7 seed (6-3, 7-5) and Argentinian qualifier Maria Lourdes Carle (6-2, 6-2) ahead of her victory.
Earlier in the tournament, Yastremska, ranked No 33, won against American Katie Volynets (2-6, 6-4, 6-1) and American qualifier Ann Li (1-6, 7-5, 6-2).
