Brisbane International presented by ANZ: Pegula advances to semi-finals

American Jessica Pegula, the No 4 seed, defeated Russian Liudmila Samsonova, the No 10 seed, 6-3, 7-6 (3) to advance to the semi-finals of the Brisbane International presented by ANZ on Friday night.
Pegula, ranked No 6, will face the winner of the match between Russian Mirra Andreeva, the No 6 seed, and Ukrainian Marta Kostyuk, the No 16 seed, next.
The American won against Ukrainian Dayana Yastremska (5-7, 6-2, 6-3) and edged out Russian Anna Kalinskaya (6-2, 2-6, 6-4) in the previous rounds.
Earlier in the tournament, Samsonova, ranked No 17, won against Belarusian qualifier Aliaksandra Sasnovich (6-4, 6-4) and Australian wildcard Emerson Jones (6-4, 6-1).
