WTA Hobart: Mertens books spot in final against Kessler

Belgian Elise Mertens, the second seed, advanced to the final of the WTA Hobart International by beating Australian wildcard Maya Joint 6-2, 6-3 on Friday.
Mertens, ranked No 34, will play American McCartney Kessler next at Hobart’s Domain Tennis Centre. as she aims to win the Hobart title for the third time.
The Belgian beat Spanish qualifier Nuria Parrizas Diaz (6-3, 6-1), Mexican lucky loser Renata Zarazua (6-4, 6-3) and Russian Veronika Kudermetova (6-1, 0-6, 6-2) ahead of her win today.
In the previous rounds of the tournament, Joint, ranked No 118, won against Serb Olga Danilovic (6-2, 6-3), Pole Magda Linette, the No 4 seed (6-1, 6-1) and American wildcard Sofia Kenin (6-3, 6-1).
