Portuguese lucky loser Jaime Faria got the best of Chilean qualifier Tomas Barrios Vera 6-2, 7-5 to advance to the second round of the Rio Open at the Jockey Club Brasileiro in Rio de Janeiro on Tuesday night.
Faria, ranked No 107, will next meet Spaniard Jaume Munar.
