Italian Matteo Berrettini, the No 29 seed, defeated French lucky loser Hugo Gaston 4-6, 6-3, 6-3 to reach the third round of the Miami Masters at the Hard Rock Stadium on Saturday.
Berrettini, ranked No 30, will play Belgian Zizou Bergs next.
In the previous round of the Miami Open, Gaston, ranked No 88, benefited from the abandonment of Japanese Yoshihito Nishioka (6-4, 3-1).
