Monte-Carlo Masters: Fils through to second round

Frenchman Arthur Fils, the No 12 seed, won against Dutchman Tallon Griekspoor 6-7 (3), 6-4, 6-2 to move into the second round of the Monte-Carlo Masters at Monte-Carlo Country Club on Tuesday afternoon.

After the match, Fils credited the change in surface for his success, saying:

“He made me run a lot, but I like clay. Often the bounce is high enough at the level of my shoulders, so I can hit hard. I was able to find my pace on the backhand, too. I think for aggressive players clay is good.”

Fils, ranked No 15, will play Italian Flavio Cobolli next.
