Argentinian Francisco Cerundolo, the No 20 seed, moved into the last 4 of the Madrid Masters by winning against No 22 seed Jakub Mensik 3-6, 7-6 (5), 6-2 at the Caja Mágica on Thursday.

Cerundolo, ranked No 21, will play Norwegian Casper Ruud, the No 14 seed, next.

The Argentinian defeated French qualifier Harold Mayot (6-3, 6-4), Francisco Comesana (6-4, 6-4) and German Alexander Zverev, the top seed (7-5, 6-3) earlier in the tournament.

In the previous rounds of the Madrid tournament, Mensik, ranked No 23, won against American qualifier Ethan Quinn (7-6 (4), 6-1), American Ben Shelton, the No 12 seed (6-1, 6-4) and Kazakh Alexander Bublik (6-3, 6-2).
