Belarusian Aryna Sabalenka, the top seed, won against Ukrainian Elina Svitolina, the No 17 seed, 6-3, 7-5 to advance to the final of the Madrid Open at the Caja Mágica on Thursday evening.
Sabalenka, ranked No 1, will face American Coco Gauff, the No 4 seed, next.
In the previous rounds of the Madrid tournament, the Belarusian defeated Russian qualifier Anna Blinkova (6-3, 6-4), Belgian Elise Mertens, the No 28 seed (3-6, 6-2, 6-1), American Peyton Stearns (6-2, 6-4) and Ukrainian Marta Kostyuk, the No 24 seed (7-6 (4), 7-6 (7)).
Svitolina, ranked No 17, won against Sonay Kartal (6-3, 6-1), Kazakh Elena Rybakina, the No 10 seed (6-3, 6-4), Greek Maria Sakkari (6-3, 6-4) and Japanese Moyuka Uchijima (6-2, 6-1) earlier in the tournament.
