Ranked No. 449, Podoroska sweeps aside second seed Badosa to reach the first final of her career

Nadia Podoroska beat Paula Badosa, the No. 2 seed, 6-3, 6-4 on Saturday evening to move into the final of the SP Open, the first WTA singles final of the Argentinian’s career at the age of 29 and from a ranking of No. 449.

Podoroska had lost all four of her previous WTA semifinals and had not reached one since Ningbo 2023, having missed most of the 2025 season through injury before returning to the tour in March. In Sao Paulo she has beaten Italian Lucrezia Stefanini 6-3, 6-4, German No. 5 seed Eva Lys 7-5, 6-2 and Dutchwoman Suzan Lamens 7-6 (5), 3-6, 6-3.

She will face Spain’s Kaitlin Quevedo, the No. 7 seed, who edged out French No. 4 seed Anna Blinkova 6-4, 2-6, 6-4 earlier the same evening.

Quevedo, ranked No. 107 and playing her first Tour-level semifinal at 20, is also through to the first final of her career, after wins over Russian lucky loser Anastasia Tikhonova 6-0, 6-2, Brazilian wildcard Nauhany Vitoria Leme Da Silva 6-2, 6-1 and Serb Teodora Kostovic 6-3, 6-4.

Badosa, ranked No. 87, had beaten Lithuanian lucky loser Justina Mikulskyte 6-3, 6-2, Argentinian Jazmin Ortenzi 4-6, 6-2, 6-2 and American Mary Stoiana 6-4, 6-2 to reach the last four.
