Roland-Garros: Fonseca books spot in maiden Grand Slam third round

Brazilian Joao Fonseca defeated French wildcard Pierre-Hugues Herbert 7-6 (4), 7-6 (4), 6-4 to advance to the third round of Roland-Garros at Roland-Garros in Paris on Thursday afternoon.

The teenager is the youngest male player to reach the third round of Roland-Garros since Andy Roddick in 2001.

Fonseca, ranked No 65, will play the winner of the match between Frenchman Gael Monfils and No 5 seed Jack Draper next.

The 18-year-old Brazilian won against Pole Hubert Hurkacz, the No 30 seed (6-2, 6-4, 6-2) in the previous round of the Roland-Garros 2025.

During the first round of the Roland-Garros 2025, Herbert, ranked No 147, beat Benjamin Bonzi (7-5, 3-6, 4-6, 7-5, 6-2).
