Halle Open: Michelsen moves into last eight, defeating Tsitsipas (again)
Alex Michelsen won against Stefanos Tsitsipas 7-6 (5), 7-5 on Wednesday afternoon. He’ll face Russian Daniil Medvedev, the No 3 seed, in the next round

American Alex Michelsen advanced to the quarterfinals of the Halle Open with a straight-sets victory over Greek star Stefanos Tsitsipas, 7-6 (5), 7-5, at the Owl Arena/Gerry Weber Stadion on Wednesday.
Michelsen clinched the win on his second match point, having missed his first opportunity while serving at 5-4 in the second set.
This marks the second time this season that Michelsen has defeated Tsitsipas in the early rounds of a tournament, following his victory at the Australian Open in January. The American now leads their head-to-head 3-0.
It was also the second match with Goran Ivanišević in Tsitsipas’ coaching box, following the Greek’s first-round win over Italian Luciano Darderi (6-4, 3-6, 7-6 (5)).
Currently ranked No. 33, Michelsen will face Russian Daniil Medvedev, the No. 3 seed, in the next round. The 20-year-old American reached this stage after coming from behind to defeat No. 5 seed Francisco Cerúndolo of Argentina, 2-6, 7-5, 6-4.
