In a video posted on his Instagram account on Friday, Roger Federer is seen, racket in hand, hitting the ball at Wimbledon on one of the courts of the All England Lawn Tennis and Croquet Club, of which he became a member when he won his first title on the London grass in 2003.

In his black and white Uniqlo outfit and under the eyes of his wife Mirka, the Swiss hit the ball with his friend and former rival Tommy Haas, whom he beat 13 times on the ATP Tour, including once in the semi-finals of Wimbledon in 2009.

The eight-time Wimbledon champion accompanied his video with a simple message: “I couldn’t resist, Wimbledon.”

It is the first time he has played on the London grass since his quarter-final defeat to Hubert Hurkacz in 2021, the last match of his career.

Federer had been invited to the Royal Box of Centre Court a few days earlier at SW19 for the round of 16, where he attended the match between Novak Djokovic and Alex de Minaur, the clash between Mirra Andreeva and Emma Navarro and the duel between Jannik Sinner and Grigor Dimitrov.
