Loïs Boisson just keeps shining on clay! The Frenchwoman, seeded No. 5, won in straight sets (6-1, 7-6 [5]) against Ukrainian No. 2 seed Dayana Yastremska and advanced to the final of the Hamburg tournament on Saturday around midday, at the Am Rothenbaum venue.

It’s the first time in her career that the 22-year-old has reached the final of a WTA Tour tournament, just weeks after her surprise run to the semifinals at Roland-Garros. She’s proving that she has what it takes to consistently perform at this level.

In the first set, Loïs Boisson completely dominated, allowing her opponent just one game. Struggling, Dayana Yastremska committed too many unforced errors, letting the Frenchwoman pull away on the scoreboard.

I’m really happy to be in the final

The Ukrainian did manage to fight back later in the match, coming from 5-4 down with a break behind, but it was too little, too late. After losing her serve on Boisson’s only break point of the set, the French player bounced back strongly and won the second-set tiebreak 7 points to 5.

“I was up 5-3 and she played it well, but I managed to close it out in two sets. She hits the ball really hard and could hit a winner at any moment. I’m really happy to be in the final, and of course I’m going to try to win!” said the Frenchwoman after the match.

Boisson, ranked No 63, will play Hungarian Anna Bondar, the No 7 seed, next.

In the previous rounds of the Hamburg tournament, the 22-year-old Frenchman beat Bulgarian Viktoriya Tomova (6-3, 6-3), German Tamara Korpatsch (6-4, 6-7 (3), 6-4) and Austrian Julia Grabher (6-1, 6-3).

Yastremska, ranked No 39, defeated Hungarian Dalma Galfi (7-6 (1), 3-6, 6-2), Frenchwoman Diane Parry (6-1, 6-4) and German Jule Niemeier (6-4, 6-3) earlier in the tournament.

Hamburg WTA 250, other semi-final result (Am Rothenbaum, clay, EUR 275.094):

  • Anna Bondar beat Kaja Juvan: 5-7, 6-3, 6-4
