Canadian wildcard Victoria Mboko moved into the final of the Canadian Open by edging out Kazakh Elena Rybakina, the No 9 seed, 1-6, 7-5, 7-6 (4) at the IGA Stadium in Montreal on Wednesday night.
Mboko, ranked No 85, will face the winner of the match between Japanese Naomi Osaka and Dane Clara Tauson, the No 16 seed, next.
The 18-year-old Canadian defeated Spaniard Jessica Bouzas Maneiro (6-4, 6-2), American Coco Gauff, the top seed (6-1, 6-4), Czech Marie Bouzkova (1-6, 6-3, 6-0), American Sofia Kenin, the No 23 seed (6-2, 6-3) and Australian Kimberly Birrell (7-5, 6-3) ahead of her victory.
Earlier in the tournament, Rybakina, ranked No 12, won against Ukrainian Marta Kostyuk, the No 24 seed (6-1, 2-1 ret.), Ukrainian Dayana Yastremska, the No 30 seed (5-7, 6-2, 7-5), Romanian Jaqueline Cristian (6-0, 7-6 (5)) and American Hailey Baptiste (6-4, 6-3).
