Brazilian Joao Fonseca reached the final of the Swiss Indoors by winning against Spaniard Jaume Munar 7-6 (4), 7-5 at the St. Jakobshalle. in Basel on Saturday afternoon.
Fonseca, ranked No 46, will face the winner of the match between Frenchman Ugo Humbert and Spaniard Alejandro Davidovich Fokina, the No 8 seed, next.
This is the second final of Fonseca on the ATP Tour after Buenos Aires in February, which he won. He is also the first Brazilian to reach a final above ATP 250 level since Kuerten at 2003 ATP Masters 1000 Indian Wells.
On his way, the 19-year-old Brazilian beat Canadian Denis Shapovalov, the No 9 seed (3-6, 6-3, 4-1 ret.) and Frenchman Giovanni Mpetshi Perricard (7-6 (6), 6-3). He also qualified thanks to Czech Jakub Mensik’s withdrawal.
