German qualifier Yannick Hanfmann defeated American Marcos Giron 7-6 (3), 6-4 to advance to the last four of the Athens Open.
Hanfmann, ranked No 117, will play Serb Novak Djokovic, the top seed, next.
The 33-year-old German edged out Czech lucky loser Vit Kopriva (6-2, 5-7, 7-5) and won against Bulgarian wildcard Ivan Ivanov (6-4, 6-2) in the previous rounds.
