Roger Federer elected to International Tennis Hall of fame’s class of 2026
Swiss legend Roger Federer will join tennis immortals at August ceremony.

Roger Federer’s was already a legend but his place among tennis immortals has now been formally recognized by his peers. Twenty-time Grand Slam champion Roger Federer has been elected to the International Tennis Hall of Fame and will be officially inducted at a ceremony in Newport, Rhode Island, from August 27-29, 2026.
The announcement was made on Wednesday, with Federer recognized for an extraordinary career that saw him redefine the sport’s history and inspire generations worldwide.
Federer, now aged 44, becomes the first male player to win 20 Grand Slam singles titles and is among just eight men to have completed the career Grand Slam. Over his remarkable career, he spent a record 237 consecutive weeks at world No. 1, ultimately holding the top ranking for 310 weeks in total.
Federer : “tremendous honor”
Upon receiving the news, Federer was surrounded by the next generation of Swiss players at Swiss Tennis, where his professional journey began. He was congratulated by Hall of Famers, including childhood inspirations Stefan Edberg and Boris Becker, in a moment described as “very special”.
Federer commented: “It’s a tremendous honor to be inducted into the International Tennis Hall of Fame and to stand alongside so many of the game’s great champions. Throughout my career, I’ve always valued the history of tennis and the example set by those who came before me. To be recognized in this way by the sport and by my peers is deeply humbling. I look forward to visiting Newport next August to celebrate this special moment with the tennis community”.
The Swiss maestro claimed 103 ATP singles titles, an Olympic gold medal in doubles (2008), and inspired Switzerland’s 2014 Davis Cup triumph. Off the court, Federer is known for founding the Laver Cup, in homage to Rod Laver, and for his enduring relationship with fans, winning the ATP Fan Favorite Award for 19 straight years as well as the Stefan Edberg Sportsmanship Award 13 times.
Joining Federer in the Hall of Fame class of 2026 is pioneering broadcaster Mary Carillo, who enters in the Contributor Category. Carillo, a trailblazer in sports media, became the first woman to regularly commentate on major tennis broadcasts.
270 individuals from 28 countries
The International Tennis Hall of Fame, located in Newport, Rhode Island, USA, was founded to preserve tennis history and celebrates players and contributors who have left a lasting impact on the sport.
The International Tennis Hall of Fame has inducted a total of 270 individuals representing 28 countries around the world since its founding in 1954. Recent recipients of this accolade include Maria Sharapova and the Bryan brothers in 2025, inducted for their competitive success and inspirational influence. Famous figures already awarded range from Billie Jean King, Arthur Ashe, Serena Williams, Martina Navratilova, Björn Borg ou Pete Sampras.
Tickets for the 2026 Induction Ceremony and suite of events will be available from February 11, 2026.
