Linda Noskova survived a grueling three-set marathon against Romanian veteran Sorana Cirstea on Sunday evening. She prevailed 6-7 (5), 6-4, 6-4 to advance to the round of 16 at the BNP Paribas Open.

The 21-year-old Czech demonstrated remarkable stamina throughout the two-hour and 25-minute contest. She eventually outlasted the world No 38 in a physical baseline battle under the California sun.

Noskova secures sweet revenge

The victory carries significant personal weight for the 14th seed. It serves as direct revenge for her recent 6-1, 6-4 loss to Cirstea in Dubai just three weeks ago. This win marks the second time this season that Noskova has won at least two consecutive matches in a single draw after the Australian Open.

The defining element of the result was Noskova’s tactical discipline during the final set. While the first two sets featured multiple momentum shifts, the decider remained tightly contested until the sixth game. Noskova secured the decisive break at 3-2 and successfully protected her lead until the finish. This single break of serve proved enough to deflate Cirstea’s resistance.

Youthful resilience

The match opened with a high-intensity first set that required a tiebreak to separate the players. Cirstea had momentum from her previous upset wins over Diana Shnaider and Tatjana Maria. She utilized her flat groundstrokes to take the opening frame in just over an hour.

However, Noskova responded by increasing her service percentage and depth in the second set. The Czech eventually forced a decider where her superior physical conditioning allowed her to dictate the final stages.

She will play the winner of the match between Coco Gauff and Alexandra Eala next.
