Katie Volynets reaches Philly Open final, will face Valentova

American Katie Volynets, the No. 6 seed, defeated Spaniard Oksana Selekhmeteva, the No. 9 seed, 6-3, 7-6 (6) to advance to the final of the Ennoble Care Philly Open on Friday night.

Volynets, ranked No. 89, will play Czech Tereza Valentova, the No. 3 seed, next. The American reached the final by also beating Thailand’s Mananchaya Sawangkaew 6-2, 6-3, Slovakia’s Mia Pohankova 6-1, 6-1 and Hong Kong’s Cody Wong 6-2, 6-1 in the previous rounds.

Selekhmeteva, ranked No. 99, had reached the semi-finals by beating China’s Xiyu Wang by walkover, American lucky loser Capucine Jauffret 4-6, 7-6 (4), 6-3 and Australia’s Taylah Preston 3-6, 6-3, 6-1.
