Iga Świątek, the third seed and four-time Roland-Garros champion, beat 20-year-old Czech Sara Bejlek 6-2, 6-3 on Court Philippe-Chatrier on Wednesday afternoon to reach the third round, the 42nd win of her career in her first 45 main-draw matches at this tournament, a record now equal to the one Chris Evert held in the Open Era.
The match took an hour and 33 minutes. It was Świątek’s eighth consecutive third-round appearance at Roland-Garros, and her 20th win of the 2026 season. Bejlek, the world No. 35 who had beaten former US Open champion Sloane Stephens in the opening round, had her chances in the early exchanges of the first set – she broke back to level the score after Świątek had opened with a break – but the Pole settled quickly.
The next four games of the set went her way, and the second set followed the same pattern with Świątek breaking twice and never facing a break point on her own serve from there.
The numbers around her career on this court continue to look like no one else’s. Of the 45 main-draw matches Świątek has played here, she has been taken to a third set six times. Her last 29 matches at Roland-Garros have produced 28 wins, the only loss coming in last year’s semi-final to Aryna Sabalenka.
The 42-win mark she has now reached in 45 matches matches Evert’s record from the same point in her Roland-Garros career – a parallel the broader numbers underscore: Evert won the title here seven times, more than any other woman in the Open Era.
Świątek will play either Latvia’s Jelena Ostapenko, the 29th seed and 2017 Roland-Garros champion, or Poland’s Magda Linette in the third round.
