Walton sees off an out-of-sorts Kyrgios to advance in Mallorca

An all-Australian meeting went the way of the younger man: Adam Walton beat Nick Kyrgios 6-3, 6-4 in Mallorca, breaking once in each set against an opponent still short of full fitness.

Australian Adam Walton beat compatriot Nick Kyrgios 6-3, 6-4 on Monday evening to reach the second round of the Mallorca Championships, a single break of serve in each set proving enough to settle an all-Australian meeting.

Walton made the decisive move late in both sets, breaking for 5-3 in the first and again at 5-4 to close out the second, and was the steadier player throughout against an opponent still finding his way back to full sharpness.

Kyrgios, who has been restricted by a long succession of fitness problems, looked some way short of his best and is set to play only doubles at Wimbledon, where he will partner Alexander Bublik.
