The 2026 US Open runs from Saturday August 23 to Sunday September 13 at the USTA Billie Jean King National Tennis Center in Flushing Meadows, Queens, New York City. With 22 days of competition and entertainment, including eight days of free grounds admission, this is the largest event schedule and most competition days in the US Open’s near-150-year history.

The main draw begins on Sunday August 30 and concludes with the men’s singles final on Sunday September 13. Before the main draw, Fan Week (August 23–29) combines qualifying matches, player practices, the revamped Mixed Doubles Championship, and family-friendly events including the traditional Arthur Ashe Kids’ Day.

What is Fan Week?

Fan Week is the first week of the US Open, running from Sunday August 23 to Saturday August 29. It offers seven consecutive days of free grounds admission, making it the most accessible way to experience Flushing Meadows. A free Fan Access Pass – available through the US Open app – is required for entry for all fans aged 18 and older during Fan Week.

Fan Week includes:

Arthur Ashe Kids’ Day (Sunday August 23): The largest grassroots tennis event in the world and an annual tradition honoring Arthur Ashe’s legacy. Free admission, with a stadium show in Arthur Ashe Stadium at 11:00 AM and family-friendly activities throughout the grounds. New for 2026: Kids’ Day now kicks off Fan Week on its opening day, rather than taking place later in the week.

Singles qualifying (Monday August 24 – Friday August 28): Men’s and women’s qualifying matches across the outside courts and grandstand courts. Free to attend.

Mixed Doubles Championship qualifying (Tuesday August 25): An eight-team qualifying competition for two main-draw slots, free to attend in Grandstand.

Mixed Doubles Championship main draw (Wednesday August 26 – Thursday August 27): The 16-team main draw plays first round and quarter-finals in Arthur Ashe Stadium (from 10:00 AM) and Louis Armstrong Stadium (free to attend). Semi-finals and finals are played at night on Arthur Ashe Stadium, beginning at 7:00 PM.

Fan events: The second annual Silent Disco, the third annual US Open Block Party, specialty food and drink, player practices on the show courts, and media day.

What about doubles and wheelchair events?

Men’s and women’s doubles run throughout the main-draw fortnight, beginning on the opening days of the main draw and concluding on finals weekend.

The Mixed Doubles Championship is played during Fan Week in a revamped format introduced in 2025. Sixteen teams compete – eight selected by combined singles ranking, eight by wildcard. The scoring uses shortened sets (first to four games, sudden-death deuce, tiebreak at 4–4, match tiebreak instead of a third set) until the final, which uses standard six-game sets. The winning team takes home $1 million in prize money.

Where is the US Open played?

The US Open is played at the USTA Billie Jean King National Tennis Center in Flushing Meadows–Corona Park, Queens, New York City. The venue features three show courts:

Arthur Ashe Stadium: the largest tennis stadium in the world, with 23,771 seats. All day and night sessions feature matches here.

Louis Armstrong Stadium: the second-largest court, a fully enclosed arena with a retractable roof.

Grandstand: the third show court, an intimate setting for early-round matches and the Mixed Doubles qualifying.

The venue also includes more than a dozen outside courts spread across the grounds.

What surface is the US Open played on?

The US Open is played on hard courts – specifically Laykold acrylic surfaces. It is the fourth and final Grand Slam of the year and the second played on hard courts (after the Australian Open in January). The fast, consistent surface rewards powerful serving and aggressive baseline play.

Is there an additional free admission day during the main draw?

Yes. Beyond the seven free days of Fan Week, the USTA has designated Thursday September 10 as “Open for All Day”, with free grounds admission. This brings the total number of free admission days at the 2026 US Open to eight – the most in tournament history.
