Karolina Muchova and Jakub Mensik win US Open mixed doubles title, beating Bencic and Cobolli in final-set tiebreak thriller
Czech duo Karolina Muchova and Jakub Mensik have clinched the US Open mixed doubles title, overcoming Belinda Bencic and Flavio Cobolli in a dramatic final-set tiebreak. Their victory caps a strong fortnight for Czech tennis at the tournament.

Czechs Karolina Muchova and Jakub Mensik won the US Open mixed doubles title, beating Switzerland’s Belinda Bencic and Italy’s Flavio Cobolli, the No. 4 seeds, 6-3, 1-6, [10-6] in the final.
The title capped a strong fortnight for Czech tennis at the event, with Muchova and Mensik claiming the trophy days after compatriot Katerina Siniakova had been the pair to shock top seeds Aryna Sabalenka and Novak Djokovic in the first round.
Muchova and Mensik reached the final by surviving a dramatic semi-final against Mirra Andreeva and Andrey Rublev, saving two match points to win 5-4 (6), 3-5, [11-9]. Asked afterward what it was like relying on Mensik’s serve late in tense tiebreaks, Muchova said: “100% confidence. I’m just at the net covering my side and I’m like, ‘ace it out please so I can just stand on my side.’ He’s an unbelievable player and an unbelievable server. It’s pretty easy for me to play with him.”

Bencic and Cobolli reached their first mixed doubles final together by beating Elina Svitolina and Gael Monfils 4-5, 4-1, [10-5], having dropped just one set all tournament before the final.
Cobolli turned to Bencic on court afterward: “Thank you for playing with me. I think it was kind of a coincidence how we started, but I really enjoyed every single match we played together. You give so much energy and we have such a positive vibe. As I told you before, now you’re not allowed to play with anyone else until my career finishes. I hope we can try this again and hopefully win one time.”
Muchova, accepting the trophy, joked: “I think at the end the matching outfits made the difference for us. No, really, I wasn’t expecting to be standing here. Thanks, Jakub, for carrying me through this event”.
