Holger Rune opens against eighth seed Zizou Bergs at the ATP 250 event that starts on Sunday at the Kungliga tennishallen, the last tournament of the season before the ATP Finals in Turin. The Dane returns to Stockholm, where he was injured last year.
The draw also features three players who went deep at the Rolex Paris Masters this week. Top seed Taylor Fritz, a substitute at the ATP Finals, lost to Carlos Alcaraz 6-7 (10), 7-5, 6-3 in the quarter-finals. Second seed Casper Ruud and Luca Van Assche reached the semi-finals.
Fritz, Ruud, third seed Lorenzo Musetti and fourth seed Alejandro Tabilo have first-round byes. Van Assche faces a qualifier, with Ruud next. Ruud against Van Assche, one of the four possible finals at the Rolex Paris Masters, would be a second-round match in Stockholm.
Van Assche is one of four Frenchmen in the draw. Arthur Rinderknech faces Miomir Kecmanovic, and the winner will meet Rune or Bergs in Fritz’s section. Seventh seed Ugo Humbert opens against Adolfo Daniel Vallejo, with Tomas Machac or a qualifier next, in Musetti’s quarter. Quentin Halys starts against a qualifier, and the winner will play Tabilo.
The tournament has been hit by a wave of withdrawals, with 14 players pulling out in the 24 hours before the draw. They include Valentin Vacherot, Alejandro Davidovich Fokina, Francisco Cerundolo, Luciano Darderi, who is ill, Alexander Blockx, whose season is over, Denis Shapovalov and Arthur Fery.
