Dane Holger Rune, the No 6 seed, lifted the Barcelona Open trophy by defeating Spaniard Carlos Alcaraz, the top seed, 7-6 (6), 6-2 at Real Club de Tenis Barcelona on Sunday afternoon.

Rune, ranked No 13, beat Spanish wildcard Albert Ramos-Vinolas (7-5, 6-4), Argentinian Sebastian Baez (4-6, 6-1, 6-2), Norwegian Casper Ruud, the second seed (6-4, 6-2) and Russian Karen Khachanov (6-3, 6-2) ahead of his victory.

Earlier in the tournament, Alcaraz, ranked No 2, defeated American qualifier Ethan Quinn (6-2, 7-6 (6)), Serb qualifier Laslo Djere (6-2, 6-4), Australian Alex De Minaur, the No 5 seed (7-5, 6-3) and Frenchman Arthur Fils, the No 7 seed (6-2, 6-4).
