Frenchman Corentin Moutet, the No 8 seed, moved into the final of the Almaty Open by winning against American Alex Michelsen, the No 6 seed, 7-5, 6-4 at Almaty Arena on Saturday afternoon.

It’s the third time in his career — and the second in 2025 — that the Frenchman has reached this stage of an ATP Tour event. He lost his first two finals, in Doha in 2020 and in Mallorca earlier this season.

Corentin Moutet had a rough start to the match, falling behind 3-0. He even saved a double break point before managing to raise his level of play. He came back to 3-3 and then broke serve at the perfect moment, at 5-5, before closing out the first set on his own serve.

In the second set, the Frenchman proved more solid, breaking Alex Michelsen at 2–2 — an advantage he held until the end to book his place in the Almaty final. He still hasn’t dropped a single set this week.

Moutet, ranked No 41, will face Russian Daniil Medvedev, the second seed, next.

Earlier in the tournament, the Frenchman beat German Jan-Lennard Struff (6-4, 7-5), Kazakh Alexander Shevchenko (7-5, 6-3) and Australian qualifier Bernard Tomic (6-1, 7-6 (9)).

Michelsen, ranked No 36, defeated Japanese Shintaro Mochizuki (6-3, 3-6, 6-2), Australian Aleksandar Vukic (6-3, 6-2) and Kazakh wildcard Beibit Zhukayev (6-2, 6-3) in the previous rounds of the Almaty tournament.

Almaty ATP 250, other semi-final result (Almaty Arena, hard, USD 1.055.255):

  • Daniil Medvedev beat James Duckworth (Q): 6-7 (8), 6-3, 6-2
