Tennis fans will get an insight into the final days of Roger Federer‘s career with Amazon confirming that they have a documentary in the works on the Swiss tennis legend’s send-off at the 2022 Laver Cup.

Amazon has hired Asif Kapadia, the award-winning filmmaker who also made Senna, the documentary on F1 driver Ayrton Senna. The documentary is expected to be released around Wimbledon – a tournament that he dominated during his prime – but the exact date has yet to be confirmed.

Federer retired at the 2022 Laver Cup, playing for Team Europe, alongside his biggest rivals on the tour – Rafael Nadal, Novak Djokovic and Andy Murray.

It’s a snapshot of my life over those 12 days – Federer on the new documentary

The project was initially expected to be a home video for Federer and the Swiss worked with Joe Sabia on the same. But after seeing the footage, it was decided to turn it into a full-fledged documentary.

“It’s a snapshot of my life over those 12 days, which is pretty hardcore and interesting,” Federer said as quoted by Bloomberg.

“I never let anyone come into my house. It’s a very personal film. It’s looking deep into another layer of the tennis tour – how the camaraderie is a good one on the tour. Yes, here are rivalries, but off the court there are friendships and respect.”

The documentary also features an interview with Federer’s wife, Mirka, her first in over a decade, as well as Nada, Djokovic and Murray.
