Taylor Fritz has continued his strong start to the North American hard-court season, moving into the final of the Atlanta Open by winning against No 8 seed J.J. Wolf 6-3, 7-5 on Saturday evening.
It was another dominant service performance by the top seed, who struck 13 aces, landing 67% of his first serves and winning 84% of the first serves he made. The American generated five break point opportunities and capitalised on two of them, one in each set. Of the two break points he faced on his own serve, Fritz defused both.
When asked how he’d evaluate his performance post-match, the world No 9 responded, “It was really solid. I served well the whole match. Whenever I was in trouble, I played a lot of good points. Yeah, I just did what I was supposed to do and didn’t really give him much.”
Taylor Fritz defeated China’s Yibing Wu (6-4, 7-6 (5)) and Japan’s Kei Nishikori (6-4, 6-2) earlier in the tournament, while Wolf, ranked No 46, beat qualifier Jason Jung (6-2, 6-1), Maxime Cressy (7-6 (7), 6-3) and German Dominik Koepfer (6-2, 6-3).
Fritz, the No 1 seed, will play the winner of the match between Australian Aleksandar Vukic and Frenchman Ugo Humbert, the No 7 seed, in the final of the Atlanta Open on Sunday.
