Canadian Felix Auger-Aliassime, the No 5 seed, moved into the final of the ATP Adelaide International by edging out American Tommy Paul in three sets on Friday.
Paul has the opportunity to break into the world’s top 10 for the first time with a win on Friday but the American was denied by Auger-Aliassime, who won 7-6 (3), 3-6, 6-4 at the Memorial Drive Tennis Centre.
This will be Auger-Aliassime’s 16th career ATP final and his first on hardcourt in four years (Melbourne 2021).
Auger-Aliassime, ranked No 29, will face the winner of the match between Serb Miomir Kecmanovic and American Sebastian Korda, the second seed, next.
The Canadian edged out Frenchman Arthur Cazaux (1-6, 6-4, 7-5) and won against American Marcos Giron (7-6 (3), 6-3) ahead of his win today.
Earlier in the week, Paul, ranked No 12, defeated French lucky loser Manuel Guinard (6-4, 3-6, 6-3) and Australian lucky loser Rinky Hijikata (6-3, 6-4).
