Auckland Open: Basavareddy topples Michelsen to make last four

Qualifier Nishesh Basavareddy reached the last four of the Auckland Open by edging out No 8 seed Alex Michelsen 2-6, 6-2, 6-4 at the ASB Tennis Arena on Thursday.
Basavareddy, ranked No 133, will face Frenchman Gael Monfils next.
Nishesh Basavareddy won against Argentinian lucky loser Francisco Comesana (6-2, 6-2) and edged out Chilean Alejandro Tabilo, the second seed (6-4, 5-7, 6-4) ahead of his victory.
In the previous rounds of the Auckland tournament, Michelsen, ranked No 41, defeated Indian qualifier Sumit Nagal (6-7 (8), 6-4, 6-2) and Italian Lorenzo Sonego (7-6 (3), 6-2).
