Auger-Aliassime ends Cilic’s run in Dubai to make last four

Canadian Felix Auger-Aliassime advanced to the last four of the Dubai Open by defeating Croat Marin Cilic 6-4, 3-6, 6-2 at the Aviation Club Tennis Centre on Thursday.
Auger-Aliassime and Cilic battled for two hours, 18 minutes before the latter, facing match point on serve, sent a forehand wide. The eventual winner fired a total of 13 aces and broke the Croat thrice during the match.
The outcome meant Auger-Aliassime would play his second tour-level semi-final in less than a seven days.
Auger-Aliassime, ranked No 21, will face the winner of the match between Italian lucky loser Luca Nardi and French qualifier Quentin Halys next.
The Canadian won against Kazakh Alexander Bublik (7-6 (7), 6-7 (4), 6-3) and edged out Portuguese Nuno Borges (4-6, 6-3, 7-5) in the previous rounds of the Dubai tournament.
Earlier in the tournament, Cilic, ranked No 187, won against Australian Alex De Minaur, the second seed (6-2, 3-6, 6-3) and edged out Australian Alexei Popyrin (5-7, 6-3, 6-4).
