Italian Matteo Arnaldi beat Argentinian Sebastian Baez, the No 8 seed, 5-7, 7-6 (8), 6-2 to reach the last 16 of the Barcelona Open at Real Club de Tenis Barcelona on Tuesday.
Arnaldi, ranked No 40, will face the winner of the match between Argentinian qualifier Marco Trungelliti and Chilean Nicolas Jarry, the No 9 seed, next.
Ahead of his victory, the Italian benefited from the abandonment of Frenchman Arthur Cazaux (5-5).
