Spaniard Alejandro Davidovich Fokina, the No 10 seed, advanced to the quarter-finals of the Barcelona Open by defeating Finn Emil Ruusuvuori 6-4, 7-5 at Real Club de Tenis Barcelona on Thursday.

Davidovich Fokina, ranked No 38, will face the winner of the match between top seed Carlos Alcaraz and No 13 seed Roberto Bautista Agut next.

Ahead of his victory, the Spaniard won against Argentinian Tomas Martin Etcheverry (6-3, 6-3).

Ruusuvuori, ranked No 40, won against Kazakh Alexander Bublik (6-0, 6-3) and edged out American Frances Tiafoe, the No 5 seed (6-4, 6-7 (3), 6-4) earlier in the tournament.
