Argentinian Tomas Martin Etcheverry defeated Italian Fabio Fognini 6-1, 7-6 (1) to advance to the second round of the Chile Open at the Club Universidad Católica de San Carlos de Apoquindo in Santiago on Tuesday evening.
Etcheverry, ranked No 76, will face second seed Francisco Cerundolo next.
