Chile Open: Hanfmann makes quarter-finals

German qualifier Yannick Hanfmann defeated Spaniard Roberto Carballes Baena 7-6 (6), 6-2 to advance to the quarter-finals of the Chile Open at the Club Universidad Católica de San Carlos de Apoquindo in Santiago on Wednesday evening.

Hanfmann, ranked No 153, will face the winner of the match between Argentinian Diego Schwartzman, the No 4 seed, and Chilean Nicolas Jarry next.

In the previous round of the Santiago Open, the German won against Spaniard Pedro Martinez (6-2, 6-0).

Carballes Baena, ranked No 74, benefited from the abandonment of lucky loser Carlos Taberner (6-1) in the previous round of the Santiago Open.
