Chile Open: Monteiro sets up Munar clash in quarter-finals

Brazilian Thiago Monteiro advanced to the last eight of the Chile Open by winning against Italian Marco Cecchinato 3-6, 6-3, 6-2 at the Club Universidad Católica de San Carlos de Apoquindo in Santiago on Wednesday.

The Brazilian edged out Spaniard Albert Ramos-Vinolas, the No 5 seed (7-5, 4-6, 7-5) in the previous round of the Santiago Open.

Cecchinato, ranked No 91, edged out Argentinian Facundo Bagnis (6-2, 3-6, 7-6 (3)) earlier in the week.

Monteiro, ranked No 84 in the world, will play Spaniard Jaume Munar next. Munar upset top seed Lorenzo Musetti in straight sets in another second round encounter.
