Cincinnati Masters: Hurkacz books spot in semi-finals

Pole Hubert Hurkacz moved into the last four of the Cincinnati Masters by beating Australian lucky loser Alexei Popyrin 6-1, 7-6 (8) at the Lindner Tennis Family Center on Friday evening.
Hurkacz, ranked No 20, will play the winner of the match between Spaniard Carlos Alcaraz, the top seed, and Australian qualifier Max Purcell next.

Earlier in the tournament, the Pole won against Australian qualifier Thanasi Kokkinakis (7-6 (2), 3-6, 7-6 (1)), Croat Borna Coric, the No 15 seed (5-7, 6-3, 6-3) and Greek Stefanos Tsitsipas, the No 4 seed (6-3, 6-4).
Popyrin, ranked No 58, defeated German lucky loser Daniel Altmaier (6-7 (5), 6-4, 6-4), Chilean Nicolas Jarry (W/O) and Finn Emil Ruusuvuori (6-2, 1-6, 6-3) in the previous rounds of the Cincy Open.
