Rublev overcomes Fognini to reach Cincinnati third round

Andrey Rublev needs three sets to get past Fabio Fognini on Wednesday at the Cincinnati Masters. Either Taylor Fritz or Nick Kyrgios is next for Rublev.

Russian Andrey Rublev, the No 6 seed, overcame lucky loser Fabio Fognini 6-7(7), 7-6(3), 6-2 to move into the last 16 of the Cincinnati Masters at the Linder Tennis Family Center on Wednesday evening.

Rublev, ranked No 8, will play the winner of the match between American Taylor Fritz, the No 11 seed, and Australian Nick Kyrgios next.

Fognini, ranked No 61, beat Spaniard Albert Ramos-Vinolas (6-2, 6-3) in the previous round of the Cincy Open.
