Cincinnati Masters: Zverev starts calmly against Basavareddy
Alexander Zverev defeated Nishesh Basavareddy 6-3, 6-3 on Monday night. He’ll face American Brandon Nakashima, the No 27 seed, in the next round

Alexander Zverev showed no signs of faltering in his opening match at the Lindner Family Tennis Center. Facing American wild card Nishesh Basavareddy, ranked 109th in the world, the world number 3 sealed the deal in 1 hour and 20 minutes, without conceding a single break point. Solid on serve and precise in rallies, he controlled the pace of the match from the first to the last point.
The first set hinged on the German’s efficiency in key moments. An early break was enough to give him the set 6-3, before he repeated the same pattern in the second set, winning again 6-3. Basavareddy, despite his energy and enthusiasm, never really found the key to trouble the Australian Open finalist.
In the third round, Zverev will face another American, Brandon Nakashima, seeded 27th, who will play in front of his home crowd. A duel that promises to be more intense for the German, who has reached three consecutive semi-finals in Cincinnati.
