No 9 seed Daniel Evans won against Frenchman Grégoire Barrère in three sets (2-6, 6-0, 6-3) to move into the last 16 of the Citi Open at Rock Creek Park Tennis Center in Washington on Wednesday evening.

Evans, ranked No 30, will face Alexander Shevchenko next.

In the previous round of the Washington D.C. tournament, Barrère, ranked No 59, beat Japanese qualifier Shintaro Mochizuki (6-4, 6-7 (7), 6-3).
